As previously announced, due to COVID-19, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con will again be held virtually as another edition of Comic-Con@Home. The online event is free and will take place Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25, 2021.
This is not to be confused with Comic-Con Special Edition, the smaller, in-person event from the same organizers of SDCC that is planned to take place at the San Diego Convention Center during Thanksgiving weekend later this year. However, we have not heard any further details on it since March.
Comic-Con International has released the Exhibitor List for Comic-Con@Home 2021, which features 337 participating companies at the time of publication. The online Exhibit Hall is divided into four sub-sections: Artists’ Alley, Exhibitors, Fan Tables, and Small Press. You can also access many of the exhibitors in the Virtual Marketplace via the Comic-Con@Home Eventeny page by clicking on the Marketplace tab.
CCI already released the Programming schedule on their website, keeping the tradition of releasing the schedule two weeks prior to the con. Programming consists not only of pre-recorded panels, but also includes games, which you can participate in via Discord, as well as watch parties for various films and anime (though you’ll need your own subscription to certain streaming services to join the watch parties). You can also access the Programming Schedule via the Comic-Con@Home Eventeny page.
Below are some panel highlights from the Programming schedule. As mentioned before, these are all pre-recorded, not live. When it says a panel is at a certain time, that is when the video first becomes available on Comic-Con International’s YouTube channel. As such, you do not have to watch it at the scheduled time, but can watch it at your own convenience. So if you see some schedule conflicts, that’s not a problem like it would be if the event were being held in person, because you can watch one right away, and another one later!
Prior to the official start of Comic-Con@Home, there were already a few panels posted, including Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, which features stars Henry Golding, Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, Haruka Abe, Iko Uwais, Peter Mensah, and Takehiro Hira, as well as the writer of the G.I. Joe comic books, Larry Hama.
