Episode Recap of Agents of SHIELD, Season 3 Episode 3: A Wanted Inhu(man)
The episode begins with Lincoln on the run from the ATCU. He uses his powers on an electricity tower, making electricity spray from the surrounding power lines, thus losing the soldier.
Back at SHIELD HQ, Coulson, Fitz, Bobbi, and Mack discuss Simmons. Apparently she was hunted back on the other world. Daisy comes in and tells Coulson that Lincoln’s in trouble. Coulson agrees that they should bring him in, and admits they know how to find him.
Daisy calls Lincoln on a cell phone that he just bought 35 minutes ago. However, he breaks the phone. Then he realizes that Mack put a tracker on him. He uses his power to short it out.
Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, Hunter and May go to a bar to meet up with Hunter’s contact, Spud, who insists on drinking before talking business. May says they have some weapons to unload. Spud says he knows some people, but Hunter will have to fight his way in, and if he’s the last man standing, then he’ll get a meeting.
Back at HQ, the search for Lincoln, who is labeled as an alien terrorist, is all over the news. Lincoln, who is on a bus, sees the news report on one of the monitors, and shorts it out. He goes to get off the bus, but a soldier recognizes and tries to apprehend him. However, Lincoln uses his powers to break free and leave the bus.
Coulson has Daisy scan law enforcement channels, and asks Mack to get Rosalind Price’s phone number.
Fitz takes Simmons into the lab. Simmons seems to have a weird reaction to the smallest sounds. She tells Fitz it’s a little overwhelming, and has him take her back to her room.
Hunter and Bobbi talk on the phone, and she wishes him luck. May calls Hunter out for lying to Bobbi. May is skeptical about Spud, but Hunter is confident he’ll get them through the door. Apparently Hunter has a bet going that May left Andrew, but May reveals that he lost.
Lincoln has his friend John come pick him up and bring him home with him to Chicago. Lincoln tells John that he’s in some trouble, but that he hasn’t done anything wrong. John says he knows what kind of man Lincoln is. Lincoln asks John if he can buy his car, and he agrees. However, John sees a news report about Lincoln.
Rosalind gets a call from the White House, but it actually turns out to be Coulson. He says they should meet. Rosalind mutes the call as Banks informs her that they just got tip about the whereabouts of Lincoln. Rosalind returns to the call, and agrees to meet with Coulson.
Daisy goes to visit Simmons in her room to try to get her to talk, but Simmons says she’d rather listen.
Meanwhile, John picks up a bat and tells Lincoln that he called the hotline, and they’ll be here any minute. Lincoln tries to leave, but John won’t get out of his way, so Lincoln uses his powers to zap the bat out of his hand. Then John collapses. Lincoln tries to use his powers to revive him, but to no avail. He looks out the window and sees the ATCU arriving. He calls Daisy and tells her he needs help. When the ATCU enters the apartment, Lincoln is not there.
At HQ, Coulson says they need to bring Lincoln in, and though he would rather have Mack bring him in, he says it’s Daisy’s call.
Fitz and Bobbi discuss Simmons. Bobbi gives him the advice to give her something to look forward to, and to start fresh.
Coulson goes to the beach and meets with Rosalind.
May and Hunter show up at the fighting ring. When Hunter steps up to fight, he is surprised to see that he’s fighting Spud. Meanwhile, some thugs approach May for a drink, but they won’t take no for an answer, and lead her away into another room. May easily takes them down, and returns to watch the fight. Spud thinks he is winning, when Hunter puts on his brass knuckles and beats Spud down to the point where he’s not breathing.
Coulson asks Rosalind to let his team bring Lincoln in, but she says she can’t agree to that.
Meanwhile, Daisy arrives at the empty apartment where Lincoln is hiding, as Mack keeps a lookout nearby.
Coulson tells Rosalind he knows she has an ace up her sleeve and he’s getting tired of waiting for her to play it. Rosalind shows Coulson a picture of Daisy on her phone. Apparently they know she has powers and works for Coulson. He asks what he needs to do to keep this quiet. She says he knows what she wants.
Lincoln wallows in his grief, but Daisy tries to convince him that he can help people if he comes with her. She reminds him that he convinced her that she had a purpose, and says she wants to do the same for him. They kiss, and he agrees to go with her, but not to work with SHIELD. Mack comes in just then and tells them there’s been a change of plans. ATCU soldiers enter behind him, and Mack reports that Coulson’s orders are to turn Lincoln over to the ATCU.
Daisy tries to protest. Lincoln uses his powers to knock the soldiers over, and runs away. Banks says he’ll take Daisy instead. Mack pulls a gun on Banks. Meanwhile, Coulson tells Rosalind to tell her men to stand down. She says she can’t do that, but Coulson says he can offer something better. Banks gets off the phone with Rosalind and tells the others they’re leaving.
Fitz takes Simmons out to dinner, where he has made sure that the restaurant is empty. Apparently he has held these reservations for months. Simmons thanks Fitz for finding her. The waiter pours wine into their glasses, and Simmons breaks down crying. Fitz goes and sits next to her, comforting her as she cries.
Back at HQ, Coulson explains himself to Daisy, and tells her that he offered them his expertise. Daisy isn’t very happy about it.
Hunter is brought into a room with a HYDRA symbol, and tells the guy there he’s looking forward to meeting his boss one day.
In the final scene, Bobbi finds Simmons working in the lab. Simmons says she has to go back.
Violet’s Thoughts on Season 3 Episode 3 of Agents of SHIELD: A Wanted Inhu(man)
So far, Agents of SHIELD is really doing a good job of keeping my attention this season.
Admittedly, as I’ve mentioned before, a big part of this is FitzSimmons. He is so great with her, really taking good care of her after all she has been through. And we probably don’t really know the half of what he went through to try to find her. So we finally get to see them go out on their dinner date, though it seemed more of a platonic thing, considering what state Simmons is in, and after she broke down. It seemed like she had a reaction to seeing the wine being poured. My guess was that it reminded her of blood. Simmons’ condition is kind of reminiscent of Fitz’s condition, in that they both suffered a great trauma and are having to go through a recovery period. The big difference is that Fitz is being supportive and helping Simmons recover, while Simmons ran away while Fitz was recovering. Of course, the circumstances are a bit different, as we know that Fitz is in love with Simmons, whereas at the time, Simmons had just heard Fitz’s declaration of love for her, and she didn’t feel the same way. The question is, have those feelings changed? And the other question is, why does she want to go back to the world she escaped from? Also, how will she get back now that the portal has been closed?
Yeah, so the whole Lincoln storyline was a bit weak, with the way his friend was saying one minute that he knows what kind of man he is, and the next turning him in, without giving Lincoln a chance to explain. In any case, this all led to SHIELD and the ATCU working together, which I figured was going to happen. I’ll guess we’ll see that in action next episode.
Then lastly, we got to see May in action! Even though Hunter was supposed to be the fighter. But I’m glad they found a way to fit a May butt kicking scene in there anyway!
Interested to see what Simmons is up to, and how this new SHIELD/ ATCU alliance is going to work!
Josh’s Thoughts: Agents of SHIELD, Season 3 Episode 3: A Wanted Inhu(man)
The big take-away I had from this episode of Agents of SHIELD is that Lincoln took too long to agree to come in! He knew he had nowhere to go really, yet he was so hard headed that he wouldn’t just go to SHIELD. With how he helped out in the season finale from last season, I would think he would have been a little bit more willing to work with them, especially when his own life is in danger. I guess one thing that didn’t help the situation was Mack’s tracker in Lincoln’s arm, but still!
One weird thing that bothered with the story this episode was the fact that Lincoln’s friend, who seemed to know him pretty well, and liked him a lot, turned on Lincoln so fast after seeing some news story on TV. Before that reveal, I thought maybe this guy picked up Lincoln to turn him in for a reward, which I would have found more believable, but how it played out just didn’t really feel believable to me.
I thought it was really sweet that Fitz had been keeping a reservation with the restaurant he took Simmons to for as long as she has been gone. Fitz really has it bad for Simmons! What is sad is I don’t think that Simmons feels the same way. She seems to appreciate what Fitz did to save her, but I don’t feel she has the same romantic feeling for him. What I wonder though—why does Simmons feel compelled to go back to the Hell she escaped from? Is it a sense of feeling lost, since she was there for so long? Or is it more that she has something there that is important to take care of? I hope we get more of this soon.
Finally, I really liked the Hunter and May interaction this week. I almost wonder if they will end up having a romantic thing eventually, since they both seem to be about as broken as the other for similar reasons. But, I really thought the bar scene was funny with the British accents. It could have been a lot funnier though, if the speech became actually unrecognizable because of the drinking and British accents.
This season so far has probably been my favorite. We are only a couple episodes in, so I hope this awesomeness continues.
