Recap of Agents of SHIELD, Season 4 Episode 4: Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire
On this episode of Agents of SHIELD, Simmons is out checking on an apartment for her and Fitz to move into. Turns out this was all a ploy by Daisy, because she needs medical attention. She has been severely injured.
Simmons cleans up her gunshot wound, and Daisy talks about how she used her search data to figure out how to get Simmons there. Daisy then tells Simmons she has Inhuman assets she picked up from Watchdogs, which they are getting from hacking into SHIELD servers. Daisy then tells Simmons she has to help hack them too so she can help out. Simmons refuses because of her lie detection tests. Daisy makes it “involuntary” by pointing a gun at her.
Daisy comes up with a big plan to get the information she wants, but Simmons makes it easy by simply asking one of her subordinates to bring a drive into SHIELD HQ that Daisy had made up, which would transmit the data Daisy needs. Daisy is baffled and impressed by how easily it was done.
Daisy seems to have been right after analyzing the data. They figure out that James is on the list too. Daisy plans to move to get to James, but Simmons insists on going with her. James is working at a Fireworks store, and selling some massive fireworks to some teenagers. Daisy and Simmons warn James about the Watchdogs, and they break off his security device. But James isn’t really wanting to do anything about it. Daisy tries to talk James into standing up to the Watchdogs. He tells them to come back later.
James meets them. But it looks like James is working with the Watchdogs, and lures Simmons and Daisy into a trap. Turns out he wasn’t too happy to be an Inhuman. He is helping capture them all. Daisy uses her ability to shake the ground, and she and Simmons make a getaway. They hide in a storage locker, and Daisy has injured herself pretty badly.
James, meanwhile, is searching the area for the two. He finds them, but luckily so does Robbie. Robbie takes on James, and it doesn’t go well for James.
Coulson and Mack, meanwhile, enter the firework shop, and Simmons finds the two. Daisy walks in to Mack’s and Coulson’s surprise as well. Robbie and James continue to fight, and it looks like an explosion is imminent. Coulson, Mack, Simmons and Daisy flee just before it ignites. Robbie walks out, with an unconscious James being dragged.
Back on the Quinjet, Daisy and Coulson have a long overdue chat. Coulson is quiet, but then Daisy and Coulson get into an argument. Coulson insists that there are more pressing matters than the Watchdogs. Coulson is pretty convincing though, and Daisy seems to be teaming up with SHIELD.
Uncle Eli
Meanwhile, Eli (Robbie’s uncle) is visited by Coulson, who doesn’t know about the connection between uncle and son yet. Coulson is trying to get information on the accident at Momentum Energy Labs. Eli decides to keep his mouth shut, despite Coulson’s pleas. Coulson tells Eli about his ex-colleagues turning into people with “abilities”, but Eli refuses to assist.
Outside, Mack seems to figure out what happened in the prison. But Robbie happens to roll up, and Mack and Coulson give chase in Lola. After a high speed chase, Robbie is caught when he runs into an invisible Quinjet. He is put into one of the holding cells on the Quinjet, but he refuses to provide any information.
Coulson seems to be putting together things about Robbie. He sets Robbie free, despite Mack’s protests. Coulson realizes Robbie’s uncle is Eli. Coulson asks Robbie to talk to Eli, and let them listen in. Robbie agrees, but Eli seems to be in on what is going on. Eli talks about his past work, and apparently they were making a particle generator. Eli tells Robbie that the girl that worked at Momentum is going to be looking for a book.
Mack, meanwhile, learns there is an issue and that very woman is waking up Joseph to ask about the book.
Agent May
Agent May is getting better, but still under Radcliffe’s care. Aida has been taking care of her, with May not knowing she is a robot. May is unfortunately unable to leave due to further testing needed. Fitz shows up eventually and sees Aida out, and immediately freaks out. Radcliffe tells him that he is running the Turing test. Aida, meanwhile, is impressing May.
Radcliffe is doing some diagnostics, and Aida asks why Fitz lied to May about where she is from. Radcliffe talks to her about the necessity of lying sometimes, and she doesn’t seem to quite understand. Coulson shows up and Aida, who talks with Simmons and Coulson. Simmons immediately understands that Aida is a robot and confronts Fitz about it. Coulson seems fooled, however.

Her Thoughts on Agents of SHIELD, Season 4 Episode 4: Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire
I really liked this episode of Agents of SHIELD! That car chase between Lola and Ghost Rider was awesome, and what makes it even more awesome for me is that I go by that riverbed area where the car chase scene took place every day on my commute! Plus, we got to see Ghost Rider in action, which is always a pleasure to see.
It was also really fun seeing May be fooled by Aida, and seeing that she likes her “personality.” Probably because they are similar! I am a bit worried about Simmons and her lie detector test though…
I’m getting more intrigued about what this “book” is, as well as how Robbie got his powers. So far, this season of Agents of SHIELD just keeps getting better and better!
