Violet recaps Season 5 Episode 7 of Arrow, titled Vigilante, where a vigilante is taking crime in Star City into his own hands, and Team Arrow tries to stop him. Following the recap, both Violet and Josh share their thoughts about the episode.
The episode begins in an abandoned warehouse with a disoriented teenage girl being presented for sale by a couple of men to a couple of other men. Suddenly, the lights go out, and all of the men are shot. The girl gets away. Later, a police officer finds two of the men with poles stuck through them in the alley outside the SCPD.
Over at the Arrow Cave, the new recruits are training with Diggle. Oliver talks to Rory, and they have observed that Prometheus has stopped killing randoms. Felicity comes in and tells the team about the two men who were found outside SCPD. They consider whether this other vigilante really needs to be stopped.
The next day, Susan Williams drops by Oliver’s office to see him about the two bodies that were found outside SCPD. He asks her to leave this alone, and she agrees. She gets him to agree to meet her for drinks that night.
Lance gives Thea his letter of resignation as Deputy Mayor.
Over at Star City National Bank, some people explode the side of it, put masks on, and rob the bank. Felicity gets words of the robbery in progress and sends the team there. When they arrive, they find one of the robbers laying on the floor in a pool of his own blood, and he chokes out that the vigilante did this.
Back at the Arrow Cave, Felicity gives the report of the masked crew and their recent robberies. She is also able to pull up some security footage of the vigilante. Oliver says they’re going to find the vigilante before more banks get robbed and more people get killed.
Thea stops by Lance’s apartment to check up on him. He tells her that when he drinks like he has been doing, he blacks out and loses time. Lance also reveals that he recently woke up with blood on his hands and gives her something else he found — a throwing star that looks just like the ones Prometheus uses.
Curtis, Wild Dog, and Spartan go to a gun shop to question the shop owner about a shipment of a particular type of bullet of which he is the only shop that sells. However, the shop owner says he’s never seen the guy’s face, and that he’s scarier than Spartan. When they return to the van, they question Diggle as to why he seemed more unhinged than usual. Diggle confesses that it’s because he had to miss his son’s second birthday party due to U.S. Marshals surveilling his house.
Meanwhile, Artemis and Ragman question another guy about Eric Dunn. After Ragman throws him around, the guy finally reveals that he knows how Eric operates: he picks banks based on their proximity to the police station — furthest first, then works his way inward.
Eric’s crew hits another bank, and the vigilante shows up. However, Team Arrow also shows up. A firefight breaks out, then Green Arrow swoops in and tries to talk to the vigilante, who tells Oliver that if he’s not with him, then he’s against him. The vigilante runs off for the time being.
When Oliver returns to the Arrow Cave, he tells Diggle and Felicity that he thinks the vigilante is out there because their team hasn’t been getting the job done, and that things have only gotten worse over the past 4 years.
Thea and Lance continue their conversation, and although Lance doesn’t think he’s Prometheus, he does think that whoever Prometheus is, he’s messing with him. Lance tells Thea that he’s damaged goods, and he doesn’t belong anywhere near her or the mayor of the city.
The DA questions a member of Eric’s crew named Laura about Eric’s whereabouts, while Oliver watches from the other room. He intimidates her into telling him to try the Papp Motel.
Green Arrow takes it upon himself to go to the Papp Motel while the DA waits on getting a warrant. He finds Eric in one of the rooms. Suddenly, there’s gunfire and an explosion, courtesy of the vigilante. Green Arrow is able to protect Eric from the blast.
Back at the Arrow Cave, the team discusses what to do about the vigilante. Oliver leaves to meet Susan Williams, and Wild Dog calls it what it is — a date.
Thea brings Lance to a rehab facility, and he’s reluctant to go in at first, but she talks him into it.
Oliver meets up with Susan at a bar, and talks about the job being more difficult than he thought. She encourages him to keep doing what he’s doing. He tells her she can call him Oliver instead of Mr. Queen. Oliver gets a call from Diggle saying that they figured out a way to draw the vigilante out — rob a bank.
Diggle, Wild Dog, Felicity, and Rory break into the bank, knock out the guards, and cut off signals to SCPD, while Artemis and Curtis sit in the van outside. Artemis tells Diggle it’s all clear out there, but then we see the vigilante creeping up on the van.
The vigilante holds Curtis hostage and brings him inside. He says he needs to chat with their boss. Green Arrow shows up just then, and tells the others to go. After a brief conversation, Green Arrow shoots the vigilante, rescuing Curtis, and then Green Arrow and the vigilante begin to fight. Ultimately, Oliver uses one of his trick arrows to tie the vigilante to a pillar. Just as Oliver is about to remove the vigilante’s mask, there’s a small explosion that blows Oliver back. When he looks up, the vigilante has disappeared.
Later that night, an SCPD officer finds Eric Dunn tied up outside the precinct. The officer looks up and sees Green Arrow, who nods at him.
The next day, Thea tells Oliver what Lance told her. The only reason they can come up with that Prometheus is targeting Lance is that Prometheus knows that Oliver is the Green Arrow.
Over at HIVE, Diggle is working out, when Rene shows up. He tells Diggle that since he couldn’t make it to his son’s birthday party, he brought the party to him. Lyla and John Jr. come in with a birthday cake and presents, and Diggle thanks Rene.
Susan shows up when Oliver is leaving the office, and confesses that she had one of the guys on his detail text her when he was heading out. She suggests that he owes her a drink now, and he not only agrees, but proceeds to go with her for the drink right then.
In the final scene, Artemis meets up with Prometheus and tells him not to worry, that no one followed her, nor does anyone suspect a thing.
Flashbacks
The hood is taken off of Oliver’s head, and he finds himself sitting down at a table for a meal across from Kovar, who seems to know all about him, and Taiana as well. Kovar brings in a woman named Galina, who is his servant, and soon reveals that she is Taiana’s mother, who had come to him while her children were missing, so he helped her out with a job. However, Oliver is still convinced that Kovar is a monster.
Kovar gives Oliver the file of a man that the Bratva had told him to kill, and tries to tell Oliver that truth is a matter of perspective. Oliver stabs Kovar’s hand, which is on the table, and pulls another knife on him. Since Oliver has a knife to his throat, Kovar commands his men to put their guns down. Then Oliver takes the guns and leads Kovar down the hallway. Kovar tells Oliver that Bratva is just using him. Then he is able to catch Oliver off guard and take the gun from him, and his armed men descend upon Oliver. Kovar and Oliver then fist fight. Gregor comes in just then and tells Kovar that if Oliver dies, it’s coming out of his cut — and confirms that Bratva does in fact have a deal with Kovar, who again tells him that truth is a matter of perspective.
Her Thoughts on Arrow, Season 5 Episode 7: Vigilante
So Artemis is working with Prometheus. I have to admit, I didn’t see that one coming. Though she did start out as kind of a bad guy when we first met her, when she was taking on the role of Black Canary, so I’m not too surprised. It just goes to show that Oliver was right when he initially did not want to reveal his identity to the new recruits. No doubt that Evelyn is the leak. She’s how Prometheus knows that Oliver is the Green Arrow, and why Prometheus is targeting Lance. Has she been working with Prometheus this whole time? How long has Prometheus known that Oliver is the Green Arrow? One could argue that Evelyn has been working with the Green Arrow long enough that even if Oliver had kept his identity concealed, that by this time he would have trusted her and the other recruits, and would have revealed his identity. But then again, that would have been a more recent development, while her association with Prometheus could go back a long way.
Also, oh please don’t let Oliver hook up with Susan Williams. Please don’t try to humanize her either. The first impression of her was a pretty horrible one. She’s very manipulative. I don’t like her. There just has to be something evil about her, she can’t turn out to be good. She just can’t. If he does hook up with her, it will make it seem like Oliver is back to his playboy ways, how he was before the shipwreck, and erase his development over the past several years.
Oh, and I’m thinking that the DA is the vigilante, the way he behaved while questioning the witness. Although that could be a red herring.
I guess I’m starting to finally get invested in Arrow this season. Hopefully it keeps up.
