Episode Recap of Heroes Reborn, Season 1 Episode 7: June 13th – Part One
Heroes Reborn begins back on June 13th, when the bomb went off, which devastated the world, and caused Evos to become enemies. At the Unity Summit, Evos and humans alike are in attendance. Noah and Hiro from the future search for bombs, to try to stop them from going off. They have only a few hours to find them. Noah wants to call in a bomb threat, but Hiro thinks this would cause too many ripples in the timeline.
A man named Stevens recognizes Noah, and this man tells Noah that Claire is at the Summit after all. Noah looks for her. Meanwhile, Noah from the past has shown up too.
On the outskirts of town, Mohinder is picked up by Angela Petrelli, who tells Mohinder their working with Erica was a mistake. She tells Mohinder about Erica’s plan to heal the world, but her plan is to let the world end. She says Erica plans to have some people survive, to basically start the world over. Angela says she has seen a vision of the world ending. She has also seen the Evos who save the world though, and she says she told Erica of these Evos. Angela wants to go to the press, and warn everyone, but Mohinder refuses. She warns him that Erica will have him killed at the summit, before he can give the speech he planned.
Moving to Erica, we see her and Harris visiting a house. Inside is Richard Schwenkman (the scientist working with Erica in the future), who is monitoring an Evo–Phoebe, Quentin’s sister. Erica has her making enough “darkness” to cover the Summit. Erica warns that if she doesn’t create enough darkness, then when the world ends, Quentin will die, so she has to do this.
Next, we see Luke and Joanne, with their kid, Dennis. He apparently has an issue with sunlight, as he gets a burn with just small exposure. Luke and Joanne patch him up. Luke wants to go to the summit, to see the “amazing” Evos. Joanne sees through Luke though, who realizes Luke is hoping to find an Evo can help his child.
Back at the summit, “past Noah” talks with Stevens again, who he asks about Claire. Stevens is confused, obviously. Noah asks about Hiro, and Stevens is even more confused. Moving on, Noah asks about some security, which Erica seemed to ask to be removed. Noah seems shocked to hear about it.
Then we see “Past Hiro” who is being introduced to a game called–Evernow. Hachiro Otomo wants him to try it out, but actually he is asking Hiro to help take Erica and others to a “safer future.” Hiro refuses to help, and Hachiro then transfers Hiro into the game, into the digital “prison” we saw last episode.
“Future Noah” and “Future Hiro” could not find Claire, so they discuss stopping the bombs, but they are interrupted hearing Erica and “Past Noah” discussing Claire, and Erica tells Noah about her “big plans,” and wants Noah on her side. But Erica has Noah escorted to a place to be “more comfortable.” This actually means “Detained.” Erica does plan to meet Claire though.
“Future Noah” wants to save himself, but Hiro tells him not to. Angela walks by, and tells “Future Noah” that Claire is in the hospital. Angela and Noah head there, while Hiro works to stop the bombs. In the ER, Claire died, but she had a set of twins, which comes as shock to Noah. He argues with the Doctor, trying to convince them she can heal, but the Doctors say she died from cardiac arrest. But the Doctors bring out the twins. Noah says he has to see for herself that Claire is dead.
Mohinder, meanwhile, heads to give his speech, and meets with Erica. But as Angela predicted, his speech is cancelled. Mohinder calls her out, but Erica isn’t fazed. Mohinder is tranquilized, and taken to the parking garage. Mohinder is affixed with the power inhibiting device we have seen, but “Future Hiro” shows up. Hiro gets in a fight with Harris, and takes him out. But two more appear in his place. Hiro managed to free Mohinder though. Another Harris appears, and Mohinder gives chase, as he is rigged with a bomb. Hiro, meanwhile, takes on the two Harrises he was left with, but rather than fight them, he checks how history would change with defeating them. He decides it is best just to leave them be, and disappears.
Luke, Joanne, and Dennis show up at the Summit, and Joanne is concerned about the crazies at the Summit. They watch some of the Evos’ powers being demonstrated.
“Past Noah,” in his holding cell, gets a visit from Casper. Casper has convinced Erica to let him live, but he has to take a few pennies for his thoughts. Casper drops the penny though, and a guard grabs it. Looks like Casper might be on Noah’s side after all…
Meanwhile, “Future Noah” sees Claire dead, and says his goodbyes to her. He promises to keep her children safe. “Future Hiro” shows up, and Hiro tells Noah, there is no way to save the Summit without “too many butterflies,” meaning the future would always be worse. Noah and Hiro prepare to go to the future again, but Hiro’s power seems to not be working. It looks like this might be Phoebe’s doing, as her Darkness cloud is growing. Erica seems pleased. It winds up covering the Summit just as Erica had hoped.
Mohinder, still chasing Harris, catches him, but it looks like Harris wins–he reveals 6 others like him all have bombs, and tells Mohinder he will take the blame for the bombing.
“Past Noah” and Casper head outside, to see the “eclipse” happening, and Noah grabs Casper’s gun. He fires it into the air, to try to evacuate the area. People run in a panic, as Luke and Joanne try to find Dennis. The bombs go off, and “Future Noah” and “Hiro” see the blast from the hospital.
In the wake of the bombing, we see Molly looking for Noah. She finds him (past Noah) and Casper. Noah wants to find Claire.
At the hospital, “Future Noah” wants to go back and try to save Claire and stop the bomb again. “Future Hiro” doesn’t want to. But Angela, holding both babies, tells Noah it is no use trying again, and that one of these babies is the key to saving the future–but she doesn’t know which one. Noah has a realization at this time–he had to forget he hid these kids from Erica. It is at this point that Angela realizes the Noah came “Back from the Future.” Noah decides the best course of action is to take the children to 1999 to keep them hidden from Erica. Hiro doesn’t like the plan, but Angela does, and even offers to go back with them to raise them. But Hiro takes the three back, they name the children–Nathan and Malina. Meanwhile, Molly, Casper and “Past Noah” head to the hospital. “Future Noah” decides to take action against Erica. Meanwhile, “Past Noah” sees “Future Noah” and follows him. “Future Noah” has his gun aimed at Erica, when we see “Past Noah” show up, and rushes to stop “Future Noah” but the episode fades to black before we can see what happens…
Meanwhile, we also see that the Doctor who delivered Nathan and Malina heads home to wish her son a happy birthday–to Nathan, who is Tommy. He is all grown up apparently.
Moving over to Luke, he is searching for Dennis, but cannot find him. He heads to where the survivors are being kept, and Joanne tells Luke that they aren’t leaving till they find him.
Josh’s Thoughts: Heroes Reborn, Season 1 Episode 7: June 13th – Part One
This was a pretty interesting episode of Heroes Reborn, but considering how Hiro was concerned with how many “butterflies” could change the future drastically, he and Noah still made a lot of waves I thought. I would think that the future would be completely different. I guess maybe the show is doing the “Terminator” style of time travel, where the future we have seen has already been altered, and it is now always this way. I did like how at one point, Hiro decides to see how the future would change with his actions of taking our Harris’ clones, and ultimately decided to leave them.
The one aspect I am confused on is this: “Future Noah” should already know that Claire was at the Summit and died there. In the beginning of the episode he seems confused when the Stevens guy tells him that Claire is there. But we see “Past Noah” also learn that Claire is at the summit, so I am not sure why future Noah doesn’t remember. I guess maybe this is a part of the memories that Noah lost when he lost the memories regarding the kids–which brings me to another point. Does this mean that “past Noah” initially hid the children from Erica, and now “Future Noah” does it? This is another bit I am concerned about, as “Past Noah” doesn’t know about them, and at the point when the Haitian took Noah’s memories would be before he knew about the children, unless there is an alternate timeline that has now been erased. It is all a bit confusing, and I am not sure if it will get cleared up.
So while I am a bit confused on the episode, it was interesting to see how things are coming together. I guess we will see what happens with the Noahs in the next episode!
Violet’s Thoughts on Season 1 Episode 7 of Heroes Reborn: June 13th – Part One
Well, this was a good wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey episode that kept me guessing and contained a lot of surprises! My question is, how much did Noah and Hiro change by going back in time, or if this was how it always happened? Upon traveling back in time, Hiro seems to be concerned about “stepping on butterflies,” meaning that the littlest change could cause ripple effects and change the future drastically, which would suggest that they’re not really supposed to change anything, that Noah is just there to see what happened that day. However, it seems like that notion goes out the window pretty quickly, except when Hiro decides not to try to stop Harris and his clones.
It kind of seems like this is how it happened all along, because in the episode where Noah watches the security footage at the hospital, and sees himself view Claire’s dead body, he sees a flicker which suggests that Hiro had something to do with that visit. I need to go back and re-watch that episode and compare it to this one, because I have a feeling that we might notice that Noah is wearing different clothes in his different security footage shoots. But then, when does the past Noah find out about Claire’s children and make it so that he forgets? Is that forthcoming?
But yeah, totally did not see it coming that Claire had given birth! Much less to twins! Much less that she is the mother of Tommy (Nathan) and Malina. I kept wondering how she could have died, considering how much she has survived. I kept thinking that there must be something lodged in that spot in her head, and all they needed to do was dislodge it. However, Noah brought this up as well, and this theory was quickly dismissed. I guess maybe somehow Claire passed on her Evo abilities to her children when they were born, maybe having two babies is why she lost her powers. Or maybe she gave birth right as Phoebe’s darkness cloud passed over the hospital, which disabled her healing ability. In any case, as soon as we found out that Claire had given birth to twins, a boy and a girl, I immediately figured out that it was Tommy and Malina. What I didn’t figure out right away was how they were teenagers already, when the Odessa Summit had taken place only one year prior. I thought maybe they had some sort of Evo power that made them grow faster. But that was soon explained when Hiro said he was taking them back to 1999 so that in a year from the Summit, when Erica is looking for Claire’s babies, she won’t know to look for teenagers. Clever.
So now the question is, who is the father? In one episode, Tommy’s mom made a comment that she didn’t want him to go searching for his father. Why? Who is his father? Do we know him? Or is he someone we’ve never seen? Is he an Evo too? If so, what is his power?
I’m definitely intrigued at this point, and wondering what happens next and how everything plays out. It was great seeing old characters Angela Petrelli and finally Mohinder! Looks like we’ll be seeing Matt Parkman next. Curious if there are any other surprise cast members from the original show… Hmm…
