We had a long weekend, with the 4th of July being on Monday, and we had a pretty good movie weekend. Again to my surprise, Finding Dory snagged the number one spot with about $50 million. The Legends of Tarzan snagged the number two spot with $45.5 million, and The Purge: Election Year came in with about $34.7 million. The BFG unfortunately under-performed, making only $22.3 million
Here is a breakdown of the top 10 movies for the weekend:
- Finding Dory – $50,195,956
- The Legends of Tarzan – $45,565,000
- The Purge: Election Year – $34,796,220
- The BFG – $22,271,014
- Independence Day: Resurgence – $20,200,000
- Central Intelligence – $15,010,000
- The Shallows – $10,450,000
- Free State of Jones – $5,076,000
- The Conjuring 2 – $4,570,000

We have some big winners in this week’s guesses for the Summer Movie Draft Giveaway! Both Austin Baroudi and Daisy were able to make a correct guess of Finding Dory and they got within $5 million! They snagged 8 bonus entries to the giveaway! D. Rivera also managed to get 3 points for guessing Finding Dory as well. Congratulations!
Looking To This Weekend
We have a couple of movies coming up this weekend. The Secret Life of Pets is opening, an animated movie featuring lovable animals, and what they do when us humans aren’t home. We also have Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, which features two men looking to be respectable members of society looking for dates to their sister’s wedding, but who they find seem to have their own agenda of trying to swindle a free trip to Hawaii out of the men.
I think I am pretty confident that The Secret Life of Pets will take number one this weekend. I think Finding Dory will finally taper off enough to give up the number one spot. Numbers-wise, I think The Secret Life of Pets will make $65 million. This should be a fairly big opening as it is a children’s movie, so there should be a good crowd for the weekend. The trailer seems to have hit with a lot of people too, as there is a lot of laughing when I am in the theater and the trailer comes on. I think Finding Dory could still be in the running though—and it will probably be the number 2 movie for the weekend.
Make sure you get your guesses in for this week! Simply leave the guess in the comments below! I am really curious to see what everyone thinks will happen this weekend!
