This weekend, we had a couple more movies come out. There were some surprises in the box office for both new movies and movies that had already been released. Let’s see how our Movie Draft players are doing!
Previous Weekend Round Up
We have another weekend under our belt for the Summer Movie Draft, and we had a couple new releases: Huntsman: Winter’s War and Hologram for the King. Unfortunately for Jamie, Huntsman: Winter’s War underwhelmed at the box office, only making about $19.4 million. Hologram for the King made about $1.1 million, but it only opened in about 400 theaters. Not a bad haul considering its low number of theaters.
As for what was already in theaters, Jungle Book was number one for the second week, making just over $61.5 million. David has to be happy with that number! Barbershop: The Next Cut also made a respectable $10.5 million, with Michelle being quite happy. Surprisingly, Zootopia, which is not a part of the Movie Draft, jumped up above Batman v Superman ($5.5M) and The Boss ($6.2M) to take the number 4 spot. That movie is killing it in the box office.
Some smaller movies made a decent amount at the box office too. Criminal made about $3.1M, My Big, Fat Greek Wedding 2 made about $2M, and God’s Not Dead 2 made about $1.1M.
Here are the weekend’s top 10 movies:
- The Jungle Book – $61.5 M
- The Huntsman: Winters War – $19.4 M
- Barbershop: The Next Cut – $10.5 M
- Zootopia – $6.5 M
- The Boss – $6.2 M
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – $5.5 M
- Criminal – $3.1 M
- My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 – $2 M
- Compadres – $1.3 M
- Eye in the Sky – $1.2 M
Looking Ahead to the Box Office This Weekend
This coming weekend we have a few movies coming out. George finally enters the fray with Keanu, the spoof movie starring Key and Peele, where they are rescuing a kidnapped kitten. Jamie has Mother’s Day making its opening, and I have Ratchet and Clank, which is an animated film based on a video game franchise. We will have to see how these all do! They are pretty difficult to get an idea on as to how well they will do in the box office.
