Weekend Wrap Up For The Movie Draft
In this sixth week of the Summer Movie Draft, Jungle Book proved its staying power, with it making an additional $44 million at the box office. David has to be happy with those numbers, and I have a feeling this movie will be leaving Batman v Superman in the dust. Unfortunately for Keanu and George, that movie stumbled a bit at the box office, making about $9.5 million. Huntsman: Winter’s War had about a 50% drop off from last weekend, coming in at about $9.6 million. Ratchet and Clank, the animated film based on the Playstation video game series, faltered, with little to no marketing getting this movie off the ground, and it made only $4.9 million at the box office. I am pretty disappointed with this movie’s performance.
As for older movies, Barbershop: The Next Cut and The Boss continue modest box offices with $6 million and $4.9 million respectively. The rest of the line up seems to be winding down, with Batman v Superman likely making its last few million before it is done, along with a slew of other sub-$2 million movies, like Criminal and My Big, Fat Greek Wedding 2.
As for the week’s lucky winners, we have a couple! Daisy was right in the ballpark with her guess of $40 million for The Jungle Book giving her the cool 8 points for the week! Matthew D came in with a correct guess of The Jungle Book being #1 as well, earning his 3 points!
Here are the top 10 movies for last weekend domestically:
- The Jungle Book – $43,714,706
- The Huntsman: Winter’s War – $9,619,300
- Keanu – $9,453,224
- Mother’s Day – $8,369,184
- Barbershop: The Next Cut – $6,080,496
- Zootopia – $5,328,858
- Ratchet & Clank – $4,869,278
- The Boss – $4,286,820
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – $3,869,416
- Criminal – $1,346,196
Looking to this Coming Weekend
This weekend is a “gimmie” for your correct guesses, so get them in! Captain America: Civil War comes out this weekend, and barring some insane catastrophe, it will be number one this weekend, and likely for the next few weekends. But the box office haul will be the big question! Despite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sputtering some, I am sure Violet is going to be happy with Captain America: Civil War‘s haul this weekend, and the next few weekends. The Jungle Book will probably stick at number two, likely bringing in its fair share of money still, while the remaining movies begin to peter out due to lack of excitement for them or their duration in the box office is coming to an end.
In the coming weeks, things will start getting more heated up as the big summer movies hit. I am excited to see where this all leads!
