Box Office Weekly Round Up
Well there was a big (non) surprise this week. Captain America: Civil War topped the box office, making a huge sum of money–$179.1 million dollars. Violet has to be very excited about that. If Captain America: Civil War continues its momentum, the competition could be all but over for the rest of us. The Jungle Book continues to cruise along, making nearly $25 million for the weekend. David has to be excited about the momentum that movie has had.
Below these two behemoths, we have Mother’s Day making $11 million, likely because of the holiday that just passed. It actually went up quite a bit since last weekend, rather than down as most movies do. After Mother’s Day there is a huge drop off, with The Huntsman: Winter’s War making $3.9 Million, and Keanu making $3.3 million.
Still hanging in the top 10 at number 6 is Zootopia. It is not in the Summer Movie Draft, but it is amazing how long that movie has held on.
Here are the top ten movies for last weekend:
- Captain America: Civil War – $179,139,142
- The Jungle Book – $24,488,436
- Mother’s Day – $11,087,076
- The Huntsman: Winter’s War – $3,948,835
- Keanu – $3,287,484
- Zootopia – $3,214,592
- Barbershop: The Next Cut – $2,803,268
- The Boss – $1,913,425
- Ratchet and Clank – $1,463,250
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – $1,050,468
Movies Coming Out This Week
Coming out this week we have a couple new releases. One is Money Monster, which Violet had picked up as a replacement to Collide, which was delayed until much later in the year. The other is The Darkness, which Michelle picked up as a replacement to Before I Wake, and has been delayed indefinitely.
It is very likely, and almost guaranteed, that Captain America: Civil War will maintain the top spot this coming weekend, and likely the next few weekends. I have a feeling The Jungle Book will hang in at second place for a while as well.
