Fear the Walking Dead Recap, Season 2 Episode 7: Shiva
Daniel has a flashback to himself as a young boy, and there’s some dead bodies nearby. A man tells him to take the gun he’s handing to him. Daniel then wakes up from a nightmare about Ofelia peeling the skin from her face, as everyone rushes to Thomas’s room having heard the gunshot of Strand shooting Thomas in the head last episode. Celia is very upset with Strand for doing so, and orders him and everyone who came with him to leave by the next day.
Travis asks Alicia to help him find Chris, but she tells him about Chris being by her bed with a knife. Later, Travis sees Chris in the vineyard, but Chris runs away. Travis goes searching for him, and comes across a shack. He questions the man inside, who tries to send him away, but Travis figures out that Chris is there in the next room, holding the man’s son at gunpoint.
Nick goes and retrieves walker Luis and brings him back to Celia. He convinces her to let him and his family stay, but she says Strand must go.
Meanwhile, Strand digs a grave in which to bury Thomas, and notices that Daniel is acting strangely.
Madison talks to Nick, who defends Celia for wanting her son back. He offers to go look for Travis and bring him back, confident that the walkers won’t go after him. When Madison talks to Strand about her concern for Nick, Strand isn’t surprised about Celia influencing him. Strand invites Madison to go back to the Abigail with him, but she doesn’t want to leave without Travis.
Daniel thinks that he sees his dead wife, Griselda, waiting for him and Ofelia by the gate. An altercation breaks out, and Daniel is restrained by a group of men, and brought to a warehouse, where he is tied to a chair. Celia visits him and tells him to seek forgiveness from his dead. He hears Griselda’s voice, and later sees her appear in front of him.
Back with Travis and Chris, Travis knocks the gun out of Chris’s hand, who runs outside, and Travis tackles him. Then Chris tries to stab Travis with a knife, but Travis is able to get the knife from him. Nick soon finds Travis, who tells him that Chris needs him, and to tell Madison that he couldn’t find him.
Madison tries to convince Celia to let Strand stay, but she refuses. Madison asks Celia to help her understand her way of thinking about the walkers.
Daniel talks to Griselda, and has the same flashback that he had at the beginning of the episode. Except this time, we see that one of the men is still alive in the pile of dead bodies. Young Daniel takes the gun and shoots.
Celia brings Madison down to the cellar to see all the walkers she’s keeping there. But Madison locks Celia in the cellar with them.
Meanwhile, Daniel attacks the worker who untied him to give him food, and escapes.
Outside, Strand is brought to the gate to leave the premises.
Daniel goes to the cellar, pours gasoline in it, and lights it on fire. The fire spreads.
As the estate burns, Strand gets into a pickup truck, and drives up to pick up Madison, Alicia, Ofelia, and Nick, who has returned and told Madison that he couldn’t find Travis. However, Nick, still covered in walker blood, refuses to get in, and instead walks away unnoticed by the walkers who are swarming around.
Her Thoughts on Season 2 Episode 7 of Fear the Walking Dead: Shiva
This felt like an odd ending that was blatantly just to split everyone up. This could be a good thing, and make things more interesting, as things haven’t really been all that interesting thus far. Like several previous events in this show, things that happened in this episode seemed kind of unnatural and unbelievable — and not in a good way. I mean, sure, we’d seen that Daniel had been a little off, but he went way off his rocker this episode, seeing his dead wife, and then burning down the whole place. It was all just a bit extreme and random. Chris has also just gotten worse and worse. Is everyone just crazy on this show, or what? Can’t there just be a majority of normal minded people? Oh, and when Celia got locked in the cellar, it was like she didn’t even care. It was weird how little of a reaction she even had. But I guess with her belief system, it didn’t really matter to her one way or the other.
They were barely even at this place before it all got burned to the ground. Even with the walkers, it could have been a somewhat safe place, at least. They could have still had Chris go running off to make things interesting. But the show had to turn to completely getting rid of this nice place very quickly.
Anyway, so Nick’s off on his own, Travis and Chris are doing who knows what, and presumably everyone else is going back to the boat with Strand? I’m guess Daniel is dead, but I suppose he could still pop up, either somehow as a human still, having regressed to his soldier mindset of survival, or as a walker. Let’s just hope this next half of the season is better than the show has been so far, because I am losing hope.
