Episode Recap of Legends, Season 1 Episode 7: Quicksand
This week’s episode of Legends opens with a man flying a small helicopter-drone-like device. As he is flying it around, a kid decides to check out the helicopter. After some more flying, the man asks the kid to help re-launch it. The kid does so, and watches a bit more, then BOOM!–the thing explodes killing the kid in the process. Looks like we have our villain of the week.
Back with Martin Odum, he meets with some higher ups, who evaluate the situation Martin Odum was in while in Texas. They determine he shouldn’t have been working undercover without the sanction of his superiors. He looks to be in big trouble. After getting heated with them, Martin leaves.
Nelson Gates then meets with Martin Odum after, and it looks like Odum will still have his job but is on “thin ice”. Also, it looks like someone got a promotion–Rice will now be working in the DCO division, a part of Odum’s team. That was an interesting decision. Gates also tells Nelson to forget about Iraq, and all those concerns. He also says he should get back with his wife, and get on with his life. Basically telling him to leave this mystery gong on alone, and do real work. Gates went so far as to say the photo of Odum in Iraq was fake–although provided no real evidence that was true.
As for the case of the week, Crystal and the gang find out that a Saudi Prince–Prince Abboud has come to speak in the US regarding economic relations. The team had figured out that his itinerary has been leaked, and they suspect the Prince could be in danger.
Their first suspect is Hani Jabril. She is a woman’s rights activist, and the Prince is known for his anti-woman’s rights. Rice and Odum investigate her place, when they spot a photographer outside. Odum takes him down, and the man claims diplomatic immunity. The man turns out to be the person who was flying the drone in the beginning of the episode. The man, Ahmed Hassan, is released when the immunity is found to be real.
Wanting to get more undercover, Odum assumes the identity of Sebastian Egan, a journalist with an affinity for alcohol. Rice is his sidekick, taking photos. Egan makes it a point to connect with Jibril to see what she knows. Finally, Abboud delivers his speech and is about to leave, but he is surrounded by protestors. Meanwhile, Crystal is looking for Rawley, the man suspected of leaking Abboud’s itinerary.
Things get chaotic, and Jabril confronts Abboud about the women’s right issues. As this arguement continues, Crystal is unable to locate Rawley. A drone comes from the sky, and Odum realizing what it is, takes cover, pulling Jibril with him. Prince Abboud is blown to smithereens. As this explosion happens, Martin’s head is rattled, and visions of Iraq pop into his head. Unfortunately, there is no resolution to catching the bad guys this episode. Perhaps next episode we will catch these bombers?
Josh’s Thoughts: Legends, Season 1 Episode 7: Quicksand
The episode, generally went about where I thought it would. It backed off the main storyline for a breather, since last week was such a big thrill. I am not sure I was a big fan of the drone usage this episode. It seemed a little contrived to me, considering you could see a drone coming from a mile away. I guess it would be hard to know what to make of it, if you didn’t know there was explosives, but I still just couldn’t appreciate it.
I am curious to know what spurred the movement of Rice into DCO. I would have thought that would be the last thing Gates would want. If Rice continues his investigation, whatever Gates is hiding could be blown open. Perhaps Gates thought it was better to keep Rice closer to keep an eye on him? Or was there perhaps a back-room deal telling Rice to keep quiet for a promotion?
But either way, Odum seems to be calming down regarding investigating his own identity. That is, until we see the explosion which triggers some memories for Odum. That memory could put him right back on the case. Sounds like he would have be a lot more discreet about it though, considering how much of a reaming he got at the meeting he had early in the episode.
Overall, it was a slower episode, but still a pretty good plot for the episode, and the Legend Martin Odum assumed was interesting as well. I really want some more answers though. Who is Martin Odum really?!
Violet’s Thoughts on Season 1 Episode 7 of Legends: Quicksand
Interesting new Legend. It’s hard to believe that they’ll keep letting Martin assume new Legends so often, considering his condition, but I guess they feel like there’s no other way. Also interesting was how Rice is now officially part of the DCO. That seems like a pretty big step up from Transportation! Quite an ambitious fellow. I didn’t know it would be that easy for Rice to weasel his way in.
As I was watching this episode, I suddenly thought, wait, what ever happened with the VX? I mean, I know that there was that showdown at the bank, but I don’t think the VX was actually there, was it? Was that whole storyline resolved, or is there still some VX out there? In any case, from there we moved on to the case of Martin’s identity, which went nowhere, and suddenly that issue is pretty much dropped, and we’re on to a brand new case. Yet the show still manages to seamlessly tie the end of each episode in to the beginning of the next episode in a way that makes you want to keep watching. Bravo.
Honestly though, I wasn’t really all that into this new storyline. I just want to know who Martin really is! He definitely got some flashbacks this episode, despite Gates trying to convince him that the Iraq picture was a fake. Hopefully the issue will come up next episode and we’ll start to get some resolution.
