On Sunday, June 8, Cary Elwes made an appearance on a panel at Phoenix Comicon! He is best known for playing the lead roles in The Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men In Tights. Take a look at our pictures from his panel!
Cary Elwes made an energetic entrance onto the stage for his panel at Phoenix Comicon, which took place in the Ballroom from 12:00pm-1:00pm. He made a reference to “those three words” that everyone always wants him to say, and a little girl standing in line to ask a question yelled out what they are: “As you wish.” He was so overtaken by the little girl’s cuteness that he came down from the stage to give her a hug. As this was happening, the little girl shouted, “Best day of my life!” He also kissed her hand, and had her twirl. Throughout the panel, Cary shamelessly plugged his book, which contains stories about the making of The Princess Bride. He also shared stories with us during the panel about the making of The Princess Bride, and about his experience working with Andre the Giant.
At one point, a girl mentioned that he was her crush. At that, Cary felt inspired to come down from stage and give her a hug. Not long after, a young boy asked to take a picture with Cary, and he obliged by coming down and taking a selfie of the two of them. Soon everyone was asking for a hug, to the audible groans of the audience every time it happened. At 5 minutes left in the panel, the moderator had to put a stop to the hugs so that more people would get a chance to ask questions. However, after that, an audience member mentioned that she would have asked for a hug, except that the moderator said she couldn’t. Cary then decided to come down off stage to give her a hug anyway, and then went down the line hugging everyone waiting to ask a question. A crowd rushed toward the center aisle, hoping to get their chance to join in the hug-a-thon which took up the last few minutes of the panel. You can view our photos from the panel below.
