Yesterday, Comic-Con International sent out emails and updated their Toucan Blog regarding Returning Registration and Open Registration for San Diego Comic-Con 2017. Additionally, if you log into your CCI Member ID account, you’ll notice some information under the “Notices” tab regarding SDCC 2017 Returning Registration, Open Registration, Professional Registration, and Press Registration.
SDCC 2017 Returning Registration
Formerly known as “Preregistration,” Returning Registration has taken place in November the past couple of years. However, this time around, it will occur in “early 2017.” This is not the first time Returning Registration has been this late, as SDCC 2014 Preregistration took place on February 8, 2014.
As usual, if you are eligible for Returning Registration (and make it into a registration session), you will be able to purchase badges for up to three eligible people, including yourself.
Who is eligbile: Only paid attendees of San Diego Comic-Con 2016 are eligible for Returning Registration. Unlike previous years, you will not need to validate your SDCC 2016 badge in order to be eligible. If you are eligible, you should see a green checkmark in the upper right corner of your Member ID account that says “OK CCI’17 Returning Reg.” Also, if you click on the “Registration Info” tab, it will tell you if you are eligible.
Who is NOT eligible: First-time attendees, professionals, guests of professionals, trade professionals, exhibitors (and exhibitor-purchased attendee badges), volunteers, staff, complimentary passes, and press.
SDCC 2017 Open Registration
If you are not eligible for SDCC 2017 Returning Registration, you may participate in SDCC 2017 Open Registration, which will take place “shortly after Returning Registration is complete in early 2017.” You will need a valid and confirmed Comic-Con Member ID in order to participate in Open Registration. The Member ID system will close without warning in advance of Open Registration, so if you don’t already have a Member ID, go ahead and sign up for one now so that you don’t forget about it later!
SDCC 2017 Professional Registration
Comic-Con 2017 Professional applications and verification materials are due October 10, 2016. Click here for more information, or click here to directly access the application. There are two types of Professional badges: Creative and Trade.
Creative Professional Badge: The creative professional badge is a complimentary Comic-Con badge offered to professionals who take an active role in the creation, design, writing, editing, or production of comics, animation, films, books, video games, or toys. Job titles might include writer, artist, penciller, inker, colorist, letterer, animator, designer, sculptor, editor, publisher, producer, actor, etc. This category includes retired career professionals from comics and related popular arts field. The creative professional badge is also extended to those responsible for the content of websites that promote the historic or ongoing contribution of comics to art or society.
Trade Professional Badge: The trade professional badge is offered to agents, publicists, managers, executives, marketing, sales, business development, advertising, legal representatives, and other industry professionals who need to attend the convention for business reasons. Comic-Con trade professional badges are available for purchase to those who do not qualify as a creative professional. WonderCon trade professional badges are complimentary.
SDCC 2017 Press Registration
CCI anticipates that the Press application period will open in October 2016.
Although requirements vary, Comic-Con will consider applications from press in the comic book, book publishing, animation, film, television, gaming, and other pop culture related industries. All press applicants must be currently employed or on assignment by the outlet they are representing and each applicant and/or crew member must submit their own application and required verification materials. In general, press applicants fall into one of five categories: print, online, freelance, broadcast, and podcast/blog.
I really hope to get something other than just Sunday next year, plus back to back would be Niiiice !
