So we decided we wanted to start a new small, weekly poll on the website. Now this may have been done before, so we apologize if we are retreading old ground, but we thought it would be fun to have weekly polls of our (the “geek collective”) favorite superheroes facing off against each other in epic showdowns. Now THAT we are sure has been done, dozens of times. We wanted to throw another twist into the mix–rather than fighting to the death, our heroes would be analyzed based on their ability to perform missions. What sort of “missions” you ask? The most mundane of missions possible. Things we all have to deal with on a daily basis, that we have never seen our favorite comic, novel, television, or movie characters have to do. We thought it would be a bit of a humorous column. Hopefully someone out there has the same sense of humor as we do!
So let’s get started with the first battle! In honor of May the 4th (yes this is barely making it under the wire, but it was a busy day!), our first hero is Luke Skywalker! Many of you may know him from his small part in Star Wars. His opponent? Also quite fitting for the weekend and celebrating the release of his fifth motion picture: Spider-Man! So what is their mission you ask? The perilous task of–changing a light bulb!
You might say that this is a simple task, that anybody could handle it! But this is that one light bulb that is in the middle of your staircase about 20 feet in the air. When that bulb goes dead you wish you had Luke or Peter around to help you out. But, who will give you the most bang for the buck? Let’s see what each opponent has going for them!
Luke Skywalker
Starting with Luke Skywalker, he is a scrappy fellow. Raised on Tatooine, only to be trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi in the way of the Jedi, the force is strong within our courageous (if not a little whiny at times in A New Hope) hero. Surely he can simply just use the Force to unscrew the bulb, while then using it again to screw in the new one. He doesn’t even need to grab a ladder! His glowy light saber will also make seeing what he is doing a breeze. How else will he see what is going on in that dimly lit staircase since its only light source is burned out? Could the Force be quick enough to out maneuver Peter Parker?
Spider-Man
Now for Peter Parker. This seems right up his alley! He is a scientific genius, and can stick to walls, he can just climb right on up there! He also has his spidey-senses to help him out. He could probably tell that the light burned out before Luke even knows what is going on! But, Spidey does have to crawl up there, and do the changing manually. He does have his web-shooters to grab that change of bulb if he happens to forget on his way up though! And if there is something further wrong than a simple bulb change, the brains of Peter Parker might be able to figure out the problem with that high IQ of his!
So who do you think wins this challenge? Moisture farmer, turned Jedi, from a time long ago in a galaxy far, far away Luke Skywalker? Or Peter Parker, your favorite smart-allecky genius young adult that moonlights as your friendly neighbor Spider-Man? Vote in our poll below! If you have any suggestions as to why one would win over the other, leave comments! We look forward to reading them!
P.S. If you vote and leave a comment, you can earn 5 extra entries in our Nerd Block giveaway, which includes a Star Wars T-shirt & much more!
P.P.S. We will award 25 bonus entries to the persons who provide the most convincing argument for each character! In other words, there will be 2 people who win the bonus entries: the person with the best argument for Luke Skywalker, and the person with the best argument for Spider-Man. Violet and Josh will be the judge.
spidey for sure
Got to go with Luke
Luke would just use some Jedi mind tricks on Spidey.
Luke, he just uses the force, spidey has to jump up there and turn it.
Luke, he’s too powerful with the force.
Luke. He can do it without lifting a finger…or I guess with only his finger.
I’d have to go with Luke…he’s got the force…Spidey only has webs.
Spider-Man because I refuse to go against my bro.
I love Spider-Man, but I’m going to have to go with Luke, he has the force.
We have chosen who will receive the 25 bonus entries. Ronald Robinson is the winner for Spider-Man (he left a comment on the poll’s page), and David K. is the winner for Luke Skywalker.
Thankfulness to my father who shared with me regarding this website,
this web site is in fact remarkable.
Luke would just use some Jedi mind tricks on Spiderman and control his mind
luke for da winnnnnn! he haz the force
I’m going to say that Luke should never use the force to change a light bulb. That is an improper use of the force! Spidey can crawl up as many walls as he wants though.
