The first trailer for Ender’s Game has been released! Check out our thoughts on the movie based on the sci-fi novel written by Orson Scott Card!
Josh Says: The first Ender’s Game Trailer has been released! For those unfamiliar, Ender’s Game is a futuristic novel about children being specifically trained as soldiers to combat an alien insect-like race that has come to invade Earth. Ender is one of these students, and has become a prodigy of “Battle School”. It is a children’s/young adult book, written by Orson Scott Card published in 1985. The trailer looks surprisingly entertaining. Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley are set to star in it as teachers for the students.
While a fairly short trailer, we get to see some battle scenes, and some of the training the students go through.
While I am always hesitant of films putting children in heroic roles (Harry Potter for example), I am tentatively excited about this movie, and look forward to seeing more trailers! The book was a fond memory of my childhood, and while the track record of books to movies seems quite low, hopefully this can be one of the exceptions! The movie is directed by Gavin Hood, probably most well known for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which has been disappointing to most people although I thought it was an “alright” interpretation of the character. Check out the trailer for Ender’s Game above and see what you think!
Violet says: This trailer makes me wonder if there is going to even be the same twist that is in the book, or if the movie will have its own unique twist? For those who have read the book, you know what I am talking about, and for those who haven’t, I don’t want to say anymore because I don’t want to spoil it for you. In any case, this trailer actually makes the movie look really good, despite the fact that I don’t usually like movies with a bunch of kids in it. The actor that plays Ender, Asa Butterfield (Hugo) seems to do a great job in the few scenes we get to see him in, and I’m also looking forward to Harrison Ford’s performance, as well as Ben Kingsley’s performance, having just seen him in Iron Man 3. However, I am curious to see a more in depth trailer to get a better idea of the direction they’re taking the movie, as compared to the book. As of right now though, I’d say it’s a safe bet I’ll be at the theater to see Ender’s Game the weekend of November 1!
Totally agree with you, Violet! After watching the trailer, I wondered for several days if the movie would be different than the book in its overall message (or at least the message I got from the book). Time will tell. And, by the way, holy crap, you’ve been blogging for a while now, and I feel like I’m so behind!
Thanks for looking around our site. Yes, we’ve been blogging for awhile, but only recently published our Facebook page. I just realized we’re the ones who are behind, since this is the last trailer review we posted – and that was over 4 months ago! We really need to get back to work updating this section, so thanks for bringing it to our attention! ~Violet
I’m still surprised they showed a certain scene in that trailer. Kind of confirms how close to the book they made the movie. I thought the movie was okay.
This one like many other trailers shows you way too much of the movie; They use to be called teasers for a reason.
The trailer revealed too much really, but I did like the movie.
I actually really liked this movie even as it’s PG-13 and aimed at a teen audience!
It has a great cast and that is enough to grab my interest. I definitely want to read the book before I see the movie, thanks for the trailer.
