Episode Recap of Under the Dome, Season 2 Episode 7: Going Home
This episode of Under the Dome begins with Barbie waking up suddenly. Julia is concerned for him, but they turn and go back to sleep. The remaining hands and Melanie are staying together, with Junior keeping watch. The four discuss the obelisk, and hear people coming, which turns out to be Barbie and Julia. Barbie and Julia break the news of Sam’s death and the murdering of Angie to Junior, who freaks out. Barbie decides the best course of action is to recover Sam’s body from the bottom of the cavern.
Julia and Rebecca watch as Barbie descends the cave. His anchor comes loose after going down some, and Julia tries to save him. Realizing he is too heavy to be pulled back up, Barbie cuts the rope, plummeting into the endless cavern.
Meanwhile, the hands mourn the loss of Angie again, with the realization that Sam may have been the murderer.
After the fall, Julia makes Rebecca promise to not tell about Barbie’s death, as she is worried about Big Jim. Conveniently, Jim shows up, looking for Barbie. Jim seems to be onto Julia and Rebecca, when they try to explain away Barbie being in the tunnel still.
Then we see Barbie–still alive, in the middle of a playground. Turns out he has somehow teleported to Zenith, his hometown. We also see that Sam is wandering around Zenith as well, and has decided to pay Junior’s mother a visit. Inside a psychiatric hospital, she is teaching an art class. Pauline explains her reasoning for leaving Chester’s Mill–she was hoping that the dome would follow her. Then another bomb is dropped–Lyle is still alive, but totally nuts, only able to say the name “Melanie”. We see Sam’s hand shaking slightly, hinting at possible symptoms of being outside the dome for too long. Sam then tells Pauline that Melanie is still alive.
Julia tells Joe and Norrie about Barbie’s “death”, and Joe suspects there is more to the cavern than just being really deep. He wants to use a drone to investigate the cavern. Joe uses the drone, and around the same height Barbie fell, the drone seems to mechanically fail. Joe was able to capture footage before it died though–images of the playground.
Jim pays a creepy visit to Rebecca, scaring her into admitting Barbie is dead.
Barbie in Zenith heads home, and grabs a gun, but his place is quickly hit by some men. Turns out these men hired Barbie to collect some data, and think Barbie skipped out on the deal. They force him to collect the data, without delay.
Barbie and one of his “captors” move in to break into a high valued looking mansion, the owner of Acteon Energy. Barbie trips the alarm on purpose though, and we learn the owner of Acteon is Barbie’s dad. Father and son have a father-son chat, and it has been a while since they have seen each other. Barbie asks his father to get him to the dome to deliver a message. We also get some back-story on Barbie, and his mother dying.
Melanie and Junior search the school for Julia, Joe and Norrie. Joe calls them down to the cave.
Meanwhile back in town, Jim holds a memorial for Barbie’s death. Rebecca sees the memorial as a ploy for Jim to get some favor back in town.
Back in the cave, Melanie has the egg, and it begins glowing, and showing Zenith in a pink hue. Then, in Zenith, a mysterious red door is shown, hidden in shrubbery.
Josh’s Thoughts: Under the Dome, Season 2 Episode 7: Awakening
This was an interesting episode of Under the Dome. We finally have a few people outside of it! Based on what we have seen with Lyle and Sam, it could be dangerous being outside of it too long, if I am reading between the lines correctly. The dome must somehow be able to affect the central nervous system. I guess we shall see when Sam and Barbie begin to show symptoms.
So now that Julia, Joe and the rest of the Hands know that Barbie is alive, are they going to take the plunge into Zenith? Who else is going to find out about the mysterious teleporting cavern? And can anyone go back the other way? Barbie seems to be heading back to the dome wall, but he will probably have to find a way back inside eventually.
I am curious to see what this red door is. The door had at least one hand print on it, so I am wondering if this door is meant for the Four Hands to open it. Perhaps this is a way back and forth from the dome?
Another thing I am curious about is Barbie’s father’s company. It seemed as though the episode was very particular to keep pointing it out. Does this company have some involvement with this dome? I have a feeling this company is going to be a bigger player in the show as it progresses.
This episode was certainly better than the last few. It looks like we might finally be getting some answers. I am actually fairly excited to see what the next episode has in store for us!
Violet’s Thoughts on Season 2 Episode 7 of Under the Dome: Going Home
Thank you for finally getting interesting, Under the Dome! People are able to get out of the dome, what?! I read the book, and nothing like this happened in it! How is this going to affect the show going forward? Will people be able to come and go from the dome? Will everyone eventually figure out how to get out? What is the connection with Zenith and the obelisk? What significance is it that Melanie and Barbie are both from there? Definitely interested to see where this storyline goes.
Unfortunately, Under the Dome continues to suffer from those instances that don’t make sense. For example, why does Big Jim just happen to be so concerned about Barbie’s whereabouts right when Barbie has “died”? There’s no way he would have known that something happened to him, and I don’t think he really cared that much before where Barbie was all time. Plus, it was really weird how he confronted Rebecca like that. So now what, Big Jim’s going to take over the town again since Barbie’s “dead”? So soon after the poison scandal? Please tell me the citizens of Chester’s Mill would be smarter than that! We shall soon see, I suppose…
